About Us
Khilti Pari is a non-profit organisation created to help underprivileged girls and women by empowering them to reach their full potential, through education, health, and skill development. The NGO was founded in 2017 by 6 Indian young adults raised in Belgium. We started this project looking to help our homeland, by taking a step towards women empowerment.
Since 2019 Khilti Pari is registered in India as a section 8 organisation.
Mission Statement
Khilti Pari; supporting women with opportunities that allow for economic and social growth
Theory of Change
If we help educate women, we can empower them socioeconomically, because women providing financial support to their families will advance society’s perspective on female respect and capability.
Our Values
1We believe in equality and justice. We work to ensure everyone, regardless of gender or age, obtains equal opportunity.
2We believe in honesty and transparency. We ensure our communication is clear with the girls, our team, and our donors.
3We value accountability through continued reflection and improvement.
Why Educate a Girl?
The literacy rate measured for females is currently 64.45% in India, while state of Rajasthan is the lowest at 52.66%. The current state of India has shown a tendency of regarding women as someone's mother, sister or wife, not as an individual. The current lack of facilities has pushed 63.5% female students to quit school in their early adolescence. In low-income households, girls are often neglected education, while the boys are sent to school. A woman in India is often seen responsible for household chores, child bearing and rearing, with a dominating man. At Khilti Pari, we believe a woman is much more than these roles. She is a strong and capable individual of society. Therefore, we must break this chain of child marriage and encourage girls to explore their capabilities. We believe the importance of education and female health is often overlooked and this is how we have taken a step towards gender equality.
Where are we located?
Why Rajasthan?
Rajasthan has the biggest gender divide of 23.2% making it one of the most gender unequal states. The NSSO report says the literacy rate among males is 80.08%, while for females it is 57.6%. In the past 10 years this rate has jumped by 5.5% thanks to so many NGO's. Similarly, we are trying to increase the literacy rate among females and help close the gender divide.
Our reach
We have reached multiple villages in the Bassi district. Toonga is where our core programs are based and we have spread in villages nearby, including Anantpura, Dausa, and Karangarh.
